Sasha Solomon is having a bad day. Fired from her job as PR director at an Albuquerque HMO, she is dealing with an ailing mother and trying to figure out the origins of hallucinations that include conversations with her cat.
Sasha heads for Clovis, a small town in southeastern New Mexico, to bid on a project for the Chamber of Commerce. While there, she checks in with her widowed friend Mae King. Mae, a local dairy farmer, is clearly out of sorts and shows Sasha the reason. There's a body in one of her stock tanks--a Singaporean aviator stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. Who killed him and why? What was he doing on Mae's land? Why won't she go to the police?
Sasha must clear her friend's name, find the murderer, and land the PR job with the Chamber of Commerce within a week. But there are other forces at work who will stop at nothing to keep her from the truth. Sasha soon discovers that there's a lot more to Clovis than a dot on a map.

Pari Noskin Taichert's first book is a quirky cozy with just a dab of Rod Serling thrown in. Sasha Solomon is a PR consultant who has, as the book opens, been fired from her job but conveniently has a job interview lined up in Clovis, NM. Nothing like good timing -- maybe. While working up a prospective proposal for the Clovis Chamber of Commerce (to get some of Roswell, NM's UFO tourist dollars) she helps solve a murder. Along the way, Sasha has hallucinations and a talking cat, and works through problems with a friend she visits in Clovis, the friend's children, local characters (and they are legion) who are anything but ordinary, law enforcement, Far Eastern beliefs, UFO sightings, aliens, etc. Whew! It's a memorable combination that Ms. Taichert has deftly woven together.Unquestionably different than anything else I've read, "The Clovis Incident" seemed to start slow, but I think that was my getting into the rhythm of Pari's truly breath-of-fresh-air voice and her first person narrative. I've found that I'm particularly drawn to Sasha, who's a bit of a wisecracker with a keen sense of humor that reminded me of (but in a more refined sort of way) Katy Munger's Casey Jones character. I also like Sasha's cat, Leo da Cat, who has a 'know it all' personality.
I hope Pari Taichert has another book in the pipeline because I REALLY want to read more of her work -- and to see what other insights Leo has to offer! "The Clovis Incident" is a fun book -- do yourself a favor and read it.

The Clovis Incident Sasha Solomon Mysteries Book 1 edition by Pari Noskin Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Could not get through this book. I was reading it for a book club and gave up very shortly into the book. Poorly written with a boring plot line combine to make an unreadable book.
I had received the Socorro book for Christmas so was delighted to find her other two books on . They all had info on New Mexico mixed in with her story and since I live in New Mexico they were interesting.
As a PR professional, I was intrigued by this book about a PR practitioner's challenge to promote Clovis, N.M., as the "new Roswell," UFOs and all. Sasha needs the job and needs to find out why her long-time friend is acting so strangely. There's lots of suspense, a little bit of romance, the usual family drama and some very unexpected twists.
Quirky, but I really grew to like the main character in this novel. Hard to keep track of the players but never-the-less a fun read with an interesting plot.
I've read all the Sasha Solomon books and I love them, especially since I claim NM as home. This character was full-blown from the start and grows more complex with each story. The stories themselves are equally well thought out and executed.
I love books - mysteries or otherwise - that transport me to another place. The Clovis Incident (and Pari Noskin Taichert's other two books, The Belen Hitch and The Socorro Blast) do just that, in spades. I found myself looking up Sasha's favorite radio station, to sample "New Mexico music", and checking out the various places she travels in the course of the books.
The plot involves possible space aliens, dysfunctional families (aren't they all, to some extent?), the problems of PR and tourism marketing, a murder (of course), and a whole host of other events, beings and issues.
It's a roller coaster ride, with a satisfying ending.
As soon as I finished The Clovis Incident, I ordered the other two, and read those as soon as they arrived. I'm looking forward to more!
I actually read The Belen Hitch first, which is the second in the series, but I enjoyed The Clovis Incident as well. I had been looking for novels set in New Mexico, and both of these gave me some good background and insight into life in the state. I could relate to Sasha, and I loved her sense of humor and the lighthearted approach to the mystery. In The Belen Hitch, we learn more about the relationship with her mother, and a new character, Darnda, is introduced. I am looking forward to the spin-off novels featuring Darnda as a protagonist. These were quick reads, and enjoyable. I think the author is developing with each novel. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on The Socorro Blast!
